Section 55:OTHER JUNIOR PROJECTS

ENTRY FORMS DUE: 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2008
RELEASE TIME: 7:30 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2008

  1. Limited to junior residents of Mendocino County and those residing within the boundaries of the Cloverdale School District in Sonoma County.
  2. NOTE: Age of exhibitor must appear on entry form.
  3. Each entry in these divisions shall have been made or produced by the exhibitor. Entries shall be made on Junior Department entry forms provided by the Fair. The signature of a parent or guardian is required. State and Local rules apply to all entries and score cards in corresponding Senior and Junior Department classes shall be used unless otherwise provided in these divisions.
  4. Exhibitors who are enrolled in any junior organization for which classes are offered elsewhere are not eligible to enter in these divisions.
  5. The Fair management reserves the right to cancel all premiums of any exhibitor for any violation of the rules or for any misconduct of any kind on the fairgrounds.
  6. All work exhibited must be that of the individual exhibiting and must have been made within one year of the opening date of the Fair.
  7. Since participation in any competitive project is a learning experience for children, all parents and leaders of participants must insist upon the children executing their entries with only minor suggestions.
  8. Read Local and State rules in front of Exhibitor's Handbook. The general rules and health rules applicable to the Senior Department apply also to the Junior Department.
  9. Exhibitors must secure their EXHIBITOR NUMBER from the Fair office and enter it on the ENTRY FORM before filing the form with the Fair.
  10. SUBMIT a separate entry form for EACH DIVISION.
  11. ENTRY NUMBER and EXHIBITORS TAGS: The number stamped on each exhibitor tag will be used as the identifying number for judging exhibits.

DANISH SYSTEM OF JUDGING

The Danish System of Judging is based on established standards of quality for each type of product. In this system each exhibit is judged according to how well it meets that standard rather than how it compares with other exhibits. In all Junior Departments using the Danish System THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES SHALL BE USED BY JUDGES:
Group 1 - Superior 92% - 100% Blue
Group 2 - Good 84% - 91% Red
Group 3 - Average 70% - 83% White
Group 4 - Poor, undesirable 69% or Less No Ribbon
AGRICULTURE

EXHIBITS RELEASED: 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2008

  1. The quality desired in agriculture and horticulture product exhibits is the quality that brings the best financial return in the commercial market, and such exhibits must be at least equal in maturity as that state of ripeness required by Section 41513 of California Agriculture Code in order to be considered for premium awards.
  2. VARIETY OF PRODUCTS MUST BE ADEQUATELY AND CORRECTLY LABELED
  3. NOTE: Unless otherwise stated, the type of vegetable desired for exhibits will be the uniform commercial grade rather than overgrown. Monstrosities will not be considered for premium awards.
  4. DANISH SYSTEM OF JUDGING.(For judging scale, see Page here.)
  5. Each exhibit must be labeled as to species and type.
  6. LIMIT: 15 different exhibits, only one per each type. Each exhibit must be listed separately on entry form by species and type (e.g., Beans, snap, green; Tomatoes, Pearson; Lettuce, leaf, etc.)
