Section 43:JUNIOR LIVESTOCK--DOG CARE & TRAINING

(A One-Day Carry-In Show)

ENTRIES CLOSE: Friday, August 15, 2008
EXHIBITS RECEIVED: Friday, September 12, 2008, 9:00 a.m.
JUDGING BEGINS: 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2008
NOTE: Jr. Dog Show Animals are allowed on the grounds 1 hour before show until 1 hour after show.
RIBBON FEE: $1.50

  1. Limited to residents of Lake, Humboldt, and Mendocino Counties, and those residing within the boundaries of the Cloverdale School District in Sonoma County.
  2. Limit: Two entries per exhibitor.
  3. Open to any 4-H Member, FFA Member and Independent Junior enrolled in a Dog Care and Training Project.
  4. Independent Juniors needs to submit a project book with their Entry Form to the Fair. The Project Book must include proof of ownership, i.e. a dated receipt of sale or a date-stamped photograph. The exhibitor or family member must own the dog (mix or purebred). Dog must have been trained and fitted for showmanship by exhibitor only.
  5. Dog needs to be present on the day of show only.
  6. Judging will be done according to American Kennel Club (AKC) regulations with 4-H modifications. Judge's decision is final. This is not an AKC sanctioned show.
  7. Showmanship to follow obedience. Bitches in season will be allowed in Showmanship classes only.
  8. All exhibitors are required to wear the official dress described in the Junior Department Rules.
  9. Exhibitor, with no adult help, must groom dogs.
  10. Dogs are not to be left unattended at any time, i.e. grooming table, crate, X-pens, etc.
  11. Uncontrolled or aggressive dogs will be excused from competition. Any member caught abusing their dog(s) will not be allowed to compete and will be excused from the Fairgrounds.
  12. An exhibitor may exhibit more than one dog in obedience classes, but each dog is limited to the class(es) it is eligible to compete in.
  13. All exhibitors will be required to clean up after their dogs. Bring plastic bags.
  14. Dogs must be entered and shown in regular classes to be eligible to show in Showmanship.

SUB-NOVICE OBEDIENCE:All exercises on 6-foot leach. Heel and figure eight, stand for examination, recall, long sit one minute and long down three minutes.
NOVICE OBEDIENCE: Heel and figure eight on leash, stand for examination, heel free, recall, long sit one minute and long down. Dogs that have received three qualifying scores in Novice Obedience at any previous dog show or that have received one qualifying score in Graduate Novice or Open Obedience at any obedience competition must enter Graduate Novice or Open Obedience. No CD dogs to be entered in this class.
GRADUATE NOVICE OBEDIENCE: Heel on leash, stand for examination, heel free and figure eight, drop on recall, long sit three minutes and long down five minutes - handler out of sight. Dogs that have received three qualifying scores in Graduate Novice at any previous dog show or that have received one qualifying score in Open Obedience at any obedience competition must enter Open Obedience. No CD or CDX dogs to be entered in this class.
OPEN OBEDIENCE: All exercises off leash. Heel and figure eight, drop on recall, retrieve over high jump, broad jump, long sit three minutes--handler out of sight.

ClassNotes:

1: Sub-Novice A For first year exhibitors and first year dogs in the project who do not have three qualifying scores.

2: Sub-Novice B For second year or over exhibitors and dogs and who have three qualifying scores.

3: Novice A This is the only dog the exhibitor has trained. Dog or exhibitor has not received more than three qualifying scores in Novice at any previous dog show.

4: Novice B All other Novice exhibitors and who have three qualifying scores.

5: Graduate Novice All Graduate Novice exhibitors
